Loose COnnections (2014 - 2015)

The start of an ongoing obsession with the quality of analog video. In this unresolved project I experimented with various pieces of equipment and techniques associated with live distortion of video. I was inspired by the work of Nam June Paik, specifically ‘Good Morning, Mr Orwell’ (1984) in which he oversaw an international live broadcast that took place as part of the new year celebrations in 1983. My experiments varied in subject matter, although I found that I could evoke feelings in myself with video of my childhood that I had previously never seen. My electronic interventions in these videos were a response to the practice of Gerhard Richter, who would frequently paint over photographs. The decision process in making the work was also similar to that of Richter as much content was produced using the process with much ultimately discarded.
